Using Video on Social Media

Video is one of the most underutilized types of content you can use on social media. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have all taken great strides to make it easier and more beneficial to share video posts on their platforms. If you aren’t taking advantage of posting video, this is the time to try it. 

There are two ways you can add videos to social media:

Record: You can record, edit and share videos from within the app

Upload: Upload a video from your device to post to the platform. It could be a quick video you took on your phone, or something that’s been edited.

Using video on social media allows you to engage with your audience on a much deeper level. Video allows you to show you care and create a strong connection with customers and clients. If you’re interested in giving it a try, here are four great social media video techniques:

  1. Share Live Events

Whether you’re hosting a conference, community event, or just a special day at the office, share it while it’s happening. Video stands out so people will notice your big event. This is especially helpful for those who wish they could be there, and provides a quicker, bite-sized viewing experience. You can post live with Facebook Live or Instagram Live. “Going Live” allows you to field questions and provide a unique, interactive experience you’re your followers. Capture the best moments and throw them on social media as they happen.

  1. Respond to Questions with Video

This works best for Twitter, but can be utilized in Instagram stories as well! Instead of a regular text reply, try sending a video. This is a great way to introduce the people behind your brand and connect with your audience on a personal level. Just a quick “Thank you for the shout out, have a great day,” can show you’re willing to take the extra step. It’s far more engaging than a simple tweet, and just as easy. Send a message requesting questions about your product or a service you offer, then do a video post than answers those questions!

  1. Promote and Educate

The popularity of Snapchat and other short video platforms has made users more adjusted to on-the-fly promotions. Sharing a short fun promotional video can perform very well on Twitter and Facebook especially now that both platforms allow you to post longer videos. Keep it short, playful, and interesting – don’t get caught up in just reposting a typical TV ad. Social media allows you to create videos that are more casual and fun.

  1. Ask for User-Generated Content

Social media makes it easy to quickly connect to customers, and for them to connect with your brand. Asking users to contribute a video is a fun way to start a conversation. You could run a contest, or just ask for videos with the promise of sharing them to your audience. You could then use those videos to compile and upload to other social media platforms, or just as a showcase of your brand interactions.
